Lea
Lea asks the question that starts every book, and works the answer out herself by the end. She is curious rather than cute, and almost never standing still.
Max
Lea's little brother. He copies whatever she is doing, badly, half a beat behind. One joke a page, and never a word of dialogue.
Mummy
There is a different mummy in every book - a nurse, a teacher, a vet, a bookkeeper. She is the one Lea follows to work.
Daddy
And a different daddy - a firefighter, a farmer, a mechanic, a pilot. Whichever one it is, he comes home at the end.
Teddy
Lea's bear. He is examined, bandaged, taught, fed pretend medicine and taken everywhere.
Grandma
Turns up with biscuits and stays for the story.
Grandpa
Can mend most things, slowly, while explaining how.
